I’ve had this for about two years now. My doctor asked me to go out and buy a blood pressure monitor for your arm not for your wrist. I brought it into him and he took my blood pressure the conventional way and with the Panasonic one I purchased. Both were accurate. He took down the model number and was going to recommend it other patients who were looking for one.

After recent values have placed me in the ‘hypertensive’ range, I felt I needed a monitor for home, to gauge the effects of my newly prescribed B/P med. As an RN, I’m quite familiar with various B/P monitors, and I certainly know how to use them. I did extensive research before settling on the Panasonic EW3222S, based largely on the wonderful reviews.

Although the machine is bulky, I really like the design. It is extremely easy to use, even for a novice, and I enjoy that the results are large enough that I can take my B/P sans reading glasses. I also like the 2 person memory, quick fit cuff, and cuff storage. I’m not sure that the ’3 color light system’ that indicates whether your reading is hypertension, prehypertension, or normal is necessary and it just takes up space. Most motivated in following their B/P’s know the optimum range they are seeking. I would have preferred to see a different feature, such as, an irregular pulse monitor.

However, it matters not, that I like the design and ease of use, when I’m not obtaining accurate readings. For example, I just took my B/P with a result of 90/58. Well, I knew this was not an accurate value for me. I immediately took the reading again and it was 127/70. Quite a bit of difference. A few minutes later I got a diastolic B/P of 113. No way! I have checked out this machine against two others. If I take my B/P three times, I will get at least one value, that matches up closely with the other machines. But, who am I supposed to be—Kreskin? I’m supposed to know which of the three readings is closest to accurate? Also, there is a problem with the pulse rate. I frequently get readings over 100. When I take my pulse manually, by palpation, I find the pulse on the machine is almost always 9 to 10 BPM higher. Now, with this value, I can just simply subtract 10 BPM every time I receive a reading and will be in the ballpark, but there’s no way to adjust for the manic B/P readings.

With the glowing, five star reviews here, I suspect I may have received a ‘lemon.’ I procrastinated too long to send it back, which is what I should have done. My advice would be to always check the accuracy of your machine against your physicians, because you must be on the same page. Inaccurate B/P readings, particularly when medications are being adjusted, is downright dangerous. If your Panasonic is functioning accurately, I think you will be very pleased with the overall design, which is why so many have praised the unit. I wish I could have been one of them. I’m going back to the old sphygmo and stethoscope, for now, while I continue my search.

Very good and compact. Took it to my doctor and caliberated with the conventional pressure measuring instrument they use in the clinic. The results were exactly same. The doctor was impressed and had to buy him one for Christmas present. This is one of the best out there in the market in its category.

This review is from: Omron Premium Blood Pressure Monitor HEM-775 (Health and Beauty)

I consider the OMRON Premium Blood Pressure Monitor – Model HEM 775 to be the best monitor available. I’ve looked over others at the stores and nothing seems to be up to this quality. This monitor is made to be very compact. It’s quick to open and the pre-formed cuff is easy to place on your arm. The face has large numbers and it’s simple to operate. It has the capability to keep stored information on two users which are clearly marked as A and B and you can save 100 readings for each person. You can also keep your morning and evening blood pressure readings separate and it can detect an irregular heartbeat. It comes with batteries and an AC adapter. I also like the fact that this little computer is attractive and can sit neatly on your counter or easily placed in a kitchen drawer. It comes with a 5 year guarantee. I think it’s one of the best quality purchases that I’ve made in a long time.

This is by far the most accurate blood pressure monitor I’ve owned. I am very pleased with the design, I can take it with me if I travel, and it fits persons who are overweight. It has a 5 year warranty. I also bought one for my mom and she said she liked it as well.

This BP cuff is very accurate! Much better than the wrist ones. The comfit cut is very easy to put on, and the memory of keeping record for 2 different people is very helpful.I would recommend this product to anyone who needs to keep track of their blood pressure. Deffinitely a must have!

Walking is Free!

By: K. Dilworth

Walking has many health benefits and it does not cost a thing to do it. For your health and motivation, be determined to fit walking into your schedule even if you can't find the time to do anything else. However, first make sure you have a full physical and get permission from your doctor to engage in this activity. Also, for safety reasons, especially if you are a female, find a safe neighborhood, or a populated park to walk in where there are plenty of other people around. You can also form a walking club with your neighbors, or friends to make it fun. Make it a goal to be accountable to each other to walk at least three times a week. It's great exercise for your heart, can reduce stress, as well as lower your blood pressure, and help you lose weight if you walk consistently. We have included some of our favorite health gadgets on our website which you may find useful in your fitness endeavors. Most of all, just get out and walk. It's fun and it's free!

Next week, I'll share with you specifically why I started walking!
